CCAWR Scholarship Program - Applications Open for 2023

May 3, 2023

The CCAWR scholarship program is now in it’s 20th year and had another successful year in 2022. We awarded 8 scholarships last year and 26 over the last three years to several outstanding students in our Waterloo Region community. The CCAWR, and our partner The Congress of Black Women of Waterloo Region, continue to support the talent and excellence of young people from our local community as they pursue their post-secondary academic dreams.

The CCAWR offers a range of scholarships and one of our  premier awards is the Vincent Smith Memorial Scholarship, which is valued at $3,000. Many thanks to the support and generous ongoing donation from one of our local community businesses, Raffi Jewellers.

Including the Vincent Smith Memorial Scholarship, we will offer 8 or more scholarships in 2023. CCAWR scholarships are available to local high school students of Caribbean heritage pursuing a post secondary education at University, College or a reputable post secondary institution. Our scholarships are also available to currently enrolled students of Caribbean heritage attending one of the Region’s universities or colleges.

This year, we are also offering special scholarships for students interested in pursuing graduate school in a STEM subject, or an undergraduate or graduate degree in the medical or health sciences, or pursuing a medical career.

As local students make their decisions for university or college, we wanted to remind everyone that applications for this year’s scholarships will be open April 1st through July 15th.  Several scholarships of $1,500 or more will be available in 2023.

We are forever grateful for the support of our local community that has attended our events or provided us with generous donations to support the scholarship program. Without your support, this could not be a reality and we look forward to a successful 2023.
